*MS shed* = Mild Steel shed. It’s the most common industrial/commercial shed type in India. The entire structure - columns, rafters, purlins - is made from MS, with GI or color-coated sheet roofing.
*1. What is an MS Shed?*
A shed where the *main frame is fabricated from MS sections* like pipes, angles, channels, or beams. Then covered with GI/PPGI/UPVC/polycarbonate sheets.
Two main types:
1. *MS Tubular/Truss Shed*: Traditional. Uses MS pipes + angles welded into trusses. Site fabricated.
2. *PEB - Pre Engineered Building*: Modern. Uses built-up I-sections, bolted connections. Factory made, faster erection.
*2. Key Components*
- *Columns*: MS square/round pipe 75x75mm to 200x200mm, or ISMC/ISMB channel. Fixed to RCC footing.
- *Rafters/Trusses*: MS pipe 50x50mm to 100x100mm or angle 40x40mm. Forms the roof slope.
- *Purlins*: MS pipe 40x40mm or C/Z purlin 1.6–2mm thick @ 1.2m–1.5m c/c. Sheet sits on these.
- *Bracings*: MS angle/flat for wind stability.
- *Roofing*: 0.45–0.5mm GI or 0.5mm PPGI color sheet usually. Can also use UPVC/PC.
- *Finish*: Red oxide primer + enamel OR shot blast + epoxy paint OR hot-dip galvanizing.
